Incentive Points

Incentive points (IPs) are represented by PennyGems. IPs can be exchanged for:

  • One extra automatic success on a roll (i.e. you roll six dice, get three successes, trade in your PennyGem and now you have four – you can declare this before or after seeing what you roll)
  • One extra die for a roll, in case you are feeling exceptionally lucky and think it’s worth trying for an exploding die instead (must be declared before you roll)
  • One time use of a skill you don’t have as if you do (i.e. you have no skill in swimming, so you turn in your PennyGem and you get to make a few swimming rolls as if you are skilled — must be declared before you roll — DOES NOT APPLY TO MAGIC SKILLS)

Here are some ways you can earn IPs (only a partial list):

  • Put your character stats up on Obsidian Portal
  • Put your character backstory up on Obsidian Portal (either public or hidden)
  • Write something about the world (e.g. the customs of the Hardazi)
  • Add to the gaming logs
  • Make some artwork I can use on the site
  • Do some exceptional roleplaying during a session

Players can use a maximum of three IPs per character during one session, but there is no limit to how many you can have in the bank, so to speak. Players can also give IPs to other players, but the IP must be used right away, and it counts towards the total number of IPs used during a session for both players. So if Player A gives an IP to Player B, both Player A and Player B have used one IP for the session.
